Psalms 1:3 - “He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”

Psalms 1 assumes salvation has taken place. Verse 3 gives a beautiful illustration of the Blessed (saved) Man of God. The tree growing and reaching its roots down into the river. The River representing the Holy Spirit, giving strength and life to the tree! Then the tree bearing fruit (Gal 5:22-25). The leaves never withering! As we follow Christ, God will bless and supply the strength we need as we go through this journey of life.

the Power of God

Jesus Christ is the source of all things we receive from God, while the Cross is the means by which these things are given to us. It must be Christ and Him crucified as the object of our faith for the Holy Spirit to work on our behalf.

The Holy Spirit operates within the framework of the finished work of Calvary. It is the Cross of Christ which give the Holy Spirit the means to do all that He does for us. (Romans 8:1,2)

All of our diplomas, doctorates and degrees hanging on the wall will not save anyone. We cannot use human wisdom and reasoning to lead the sinner to Jesus. We must always depend upon the power of the Holy Spirit to led the lost to repentance. Paul reduced the Gospel down to a very simple statement in vs 2 , he was determined that all he needed to declare was Christ and His Cross, THAT IS THE GOSPEL!

The Message of the Cross

1st Corinthians 1:17— “For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the Cross of Christ should be made of non effect”

At the Lighthouse we preach Christ and Him Crucified. Why? In this one verse, the great Apostle Paul tells us what the Gospel of Jesus Christ actually is. It is the Message of the Cross. This means if the preacher is not preaching the Cross, whatever it is he is preaching, in its own way my be good, but it’s not the Gospel and it will not help anyone. The only Message that will save, heal, sanctify, bless, instruct, empower, is the Message of the Cross. It is not a message of diplomacy, rather an ultimatum. The Cross or nothing.

O' how satan attacks so subtle. What better way to demean Good Friday ( the day we remember our Savior Jesus Christ dieing on the Cross) by holding a day to think of ways to make our world a better place to live. If we want a better world to live in, the church body must repent and come back to the Cross of Christ. That is the only thing that will save mankind.

Drinking less water from plastic bottles will not save mankind from their ultimate demise. Just another attack on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Am I really saved?

Colossians 2:11 – “In whom you are circumcised with the Circumcision made without hands…”.

I am writing this to touch on the question "am I really saved?" I am asked this question more and more and I believe it is because so many people are being convicted by the Holy Spirit. Many people think they are saved when according to God's Word, sad to say, they are not! Being 'saved' is more than just a simple mouth profession.

Salvation happens when there is a regeneration in your heart, spiritually speaking. You must be 'regenerated' or there is no salvation. One cannot continue to be the same old person before the salvation experience. The second you bowed the knee to Jesus, the Holy Spirit came in and circumcised your spiritual heart. The moment you said yes to Jesus, you were translated from a kingdom of darkness to a Kingdom of Light. In a nutshell, you are no longer the person you were before Jesus. You have started changing. The things of this world grow strangely dim day after day as the light of Jesus Christ shines on you.

God saw that child like faith and sent the Holy Ghost to START a regenerative work. He came in and circumcised your heart and BEGAN a work. Notice, He did not make you perfect, He started a work. And since Jesus is the author and FINISHER of our faith.
He will finish this work in you. But in this life you will never arrive to perfection. We are still human and we will still make mistakes from time to time, but we will allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us based upon our child like faith in Christ and Him Crucified.

Why the Church is failing today?

Churches are closing on every corner, 9000 a year, why?

Ministers are leaving the ministry at alarming rates with no one to replace them, why?

Sexual misconduct in the ministry is at unthinkable levels, why?

I had touched on this in a previous post months ago and it needs to be said again and again, I believe the church is failing because it no longer depends on the Holy Spirit to guide the body of believers. People are no longer seeking the mighty Baptism with the Holy Spirit with the initial physical evidence of speaking in other tongues. It is hardly preached or taught from the pulpits of America anymore. There are a few, but that number is small in comparison to the number of churches in this country.

If the Pentecostal denominations are to be used of God in these last days, we must be equipped with that explosive power of the Holy Spirit. We must come back to the place where we are teaching and preaching that there is more to this Gospel than getting saved and filling up a pew. We must tell the people that there is an experience we can have that gives us a power to deliver the Gospel with a supernatural anointing. And that experience is the Baptism with the Holy Spirit.

St. Patrick's day was originally a day set aside to honor Saint Patrick, known as the Apostle to Ireland. He was credited with the conversion of the Irish from paganism to Christianity in the 400's.

At age 16, he was kidnapped and forced into slavery by Irish Raiders. He spent his slavery days tending flocks of sheep. In those days he would recite prayers, as many as a hundred a day, he had learned as a kid. His love and fear of God grew.

At the age of 22, he escaped the slavery and believed the suffering he endured was for a divine purpose. He entered a monastery at Gaul. Through a series of dreams, God called Him to Ireland in 432. For 30 years, he wandered Ireland establishing churches and schools. He baptized tens of thousands of converts.

Looking back at his life, Patrick said "Those who never had a knowledge of God but worshiped idols and things impure, have now become a people of the Lord, sons of God." The Christian faith grew strong in Ireland because of his work for the Lord.

One interesting probable tale is that of the Shamrock. It is said the Patrick would use the 3 leaves to explain the Trinity. How it represented the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit and how all 3 persons of the Godhead could exist as separate but of the same entity. His followers later began the custom of wearing a shamrock on his day of honor.

How to create church growth

Acts 2:42 - 47 "And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."

There are so many books wrote by various preachers about church growth, yet the only book we need for the church to grow has been right in front of us. THE BIBLE! How was the Book of Acts Church growing?

1)There was repentance of sins - sins remitted by faith in Christ - True Salvation!
2)People receiving the Baptism with the Holy Spirit
3)Fellowship - and with fellowship comes love for your brothers and sisters.
4)Fear came upon them - the convicting power of the Holy Ghost moved among them.
5)Shared their possessions to those in need.
6)They were all in one accord - NO DIVISION among the believers. Not even one!
7)Joy and thankfulness in the midst of persecution.
8)Praising God!

And verse 47 says 'and the LORD added to the Church daily'. God added the people, not mankind.

I am not reducing this to a formula but I am saying that the Book of Acts shows us the true earmarks of a church that GOD will increase.

Luke 23:40-43 - "But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise."

Why does mankind complicate something that is so simple? How did we drift so far from the simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? The thief on the Cross shows us what we need to know,

1)He had a fear of God - vs40

2)He recognized he was a sinner but Jesus was innocent - vs41

3)Then he looks at Jesus; beaten and bloody, a Crown of Thorns and sees a King! He makes a simple confession, recognizing his condition and a King that is able to save him. - vs42

4)Jesus then tells Him - Today you will be with me in paradise!

How could I put that into one word? - CROSS. Christians must come back to this simple message. I know there are so many subjects to deal with as it concerns the Bible, but I see very few talking about what will save the sinner. Instead I see people ranting and raving over why someone is a false prophet or the latest dirt on some ministers personal life. If you do not like a particular preacher, turn it off and listen to the one you do like and spend your time spreading the simple Message of the Cross. One that will save the sinner, one that will give the backslidden Christian victory. There are people dying and going to hell but the church is so busy looking at each other, we did not see the sinner slip past us into eternity, lost forever!

God has called certain people to address false doctrine, and I think we should, especially (but not limited to) pastors that need to correct their congregation. We should learn and comment about false teachings so we can protect ourselves. But something is amiss when every single blog and post is about a false teaching or a fallen man of God.

I believe the Holy Spirit would have me type these questions.
*HOW MUCH TIME ARE YOU SPENDING ON SPREADING THE GOOD NEWS OF THE GOSPEL?

*WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU WITNESSED TO A LOST SOUL?

*WHEN HAVE YOU TOLD SOMEONE OF THE SAVING AND SANCTIFYING POWER IN JESUS CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED?

What is the church supposed to preach?

Galatians 1:6-9 "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."

It is very apparent that Paul is simply shocked that the church at Galatia went into apostasy very quickly after He had left them. Paul wastes no time in this letter jumping straight into the reason for the letter - FALSE DOCTRINE. One thing we must establish, what did Paul preach? He preached Christ and Him crucified.

* 1 Cor 1:18 - "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God."
* 1 Cor 1:23 - "But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;"
* 1 Cor 2:2 - "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified."

Paul is in essence saying if they do not preach Christ and Him Crucified, let them be accursed, and that word accursed is the Greek word 'anathema'(Strongs - Greek #331). That word means to ban or excommunicate. So as I read this, anyone preaching anything other than Christ and Him Crucified, they should be removed from the church and not allowed back in to cause a false message to crop up. The Holy Spirit thought it was so important, Paul said it TWICE (vs 8,9).

The modern church must come back to the Cross if they are to see any genuine work for the Lord done. The Message of the Cross must come from the pulpit and nothing else. I am not saying that every single message must be the topic of the Cross, but I am saying that the foundation of every message must be built on the Sacrificial death of Jesus Christ at Calvary. Everything the church teaches as it concerns salvation and sanctification must be based on our faith in Christ and Him Crucified.

Does God want me to be happy?

John 10:10 – “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. “

Yes, God does want you to be happy! God wants you to have a blessed life on this Earth and that means financially, spiritually and physically. God does not want His children to suffer and He wants the world to see His blessings upon each and every child of God. But that wonderful Grace from God does not give us a license to sin. A born again Christian cannot engage in every sinful pleasure that comes along. The seasonal pleasure of sin should not and cannot bring happiness to the believing saint. The Christian life is not one of sinless perfection, but it is a life of walking DAILY after the Spirit, all because of our Faith in Jesus and His Cross.

The Greek word for abundantly is per-is-sos which means beyond measure! What can we have beyond measure? Jesus went to Calvary so we could live a life free from the burdens of sin. I did not have a clue as to what happiness was until the Master came and broke the shackles of sin that had me bound for over 20 years of my life. That wonderful grace flowed into my life and washed me clean from all unrighteousness. That new life, that new creation in Christ, that is life more abundantly.

For those who have been touched by that wonderful Grace of God, we must allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives (Romans 8:1,2) to lead and guide us on a daily basis all because of our simple child like faith in Christ and Him Crucified (Romans 6:3-5). That is the path to true happiness in life, free from the burdens of sin.

1Sam 4:19 - “And his daughter in law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her. And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast borne a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it. And she named the child Ichabod, saying, the glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.

The Philistines had captured the Arc, where the Spirit of the Lord dwelt. The Arc had no power, but the Spirit of the Lord dwelt there. Phinehas' wife realized how bad this was that the Spirit of the Lord had departed.

Why does the modern church not also realize this fact? The Hebrew word for Ichabod is Iy-kabowd, meaning "there is no Glory." That name Ichabod implies the Spirit of the Lord departed or has left. How many Churches has the Holy Spirit declared their name Ichabod? Spiritually speaking, how many Churches has the Holy Ghost placed a sign over the door that says Ichabod!

 Money ministries -ICHABOD!
 Word of Faith - ICHABOD!
 Purpose Driven Life -ICHABOD!
 Humanistic Psychology -ICHABOD!
 Homosexuals leading the Church – ICHABOD!
 Not preaching against sin – ICHABOD!
 Leaving the message of the Cross – ICHABOD!

We truly need an old fashioned, heart felt, Heaven sent, Holy Ghost Revival. We can have all the programs we want. but the message can never change. And that message is Christ and Him Crucified. It is not a popular message (the offence of the Cross), but it is a message that will set the sinner free. It is a message that will show the child of God how to live for the Lord. And that message needs to be delivered by men and women that have been Baptized with the Holy Spirit with the initial physical evidence of speaking in other tongues.

Turning Tragedy into a Blessing

In the French Academy of Science there is a plain shoemakers awl on display. To look at it, one would never suspect that this simple tool could be responsible for anything of significant consequence. But in fact, it caused a tremendous tragedy. This was the awl that one day fell from a shoemakers table and put out the eye of the shoemakers 9 year old son. The injury was so severe that the boy lost vision in both eyes and was enrolled in a special school for children who were blind. The boy learned to read by handling large carved blocks of wood. When the shoemakers son became an adult, he thought of a new way to read. It involved learning a system of dots translated into letters of the alphabet that could be read from a piece of paper on a flat surface.

Louise Braille actually used the awl which had blinded him as a boy to form the dots into a whole new reading system for the blind - known today as Braille. - cooper

When I read that story, I thought about how God is able to take the tragedy in our lives, turn it around, heal, deliver and use it for His Glory. We may not understand everything we go through but He is always there with us. God never promised a life free of troubles, but He did promise us He would never leave us nor forsake us.

God asks one thing from us. A child like faith in Jesus Christ and what he accomplished at Calvary. Nothing more, Nothing Less. That faith will give us the power we need when we are going through a valley of sorrow.

More than a laundry list

You can’t know someone unless you spend time with them. As time passes, trust is built. Confidence expands. Hearts grow closer to one another. If we desire to know our God, we must spend quality time with Him in prayer. To have a relationship with Him, we must talk to Him. Talking to God is not very different from talking to people except that He knows our situations and He has the power to intervene in our circumstances.

Prayer is more that just a laundry list of things we present to God. Prayer is about drawing near the Eternal One and listening to His voice. It is about an intimate relationship with Jehovah. This awesome experience is possible only because our sins have been forgiven by what Jesus accomplished at the Cross of Calvary. The wall that separated us from God is now torn down. Now we can come boldly before the throne of Grace. What a privelege and a honor to be able to talk to the creator of the universe. I encourage everyone to start praying like they never have before. Pastor's - start prayer meetings in your church, families start praying together. Get to praying in schools (and my children attend a public school that prays over the intercom, football games and all other school functions, it is possible!). Start interceding for the drug addicts, acoholics, prostitutes, the homosexuals, our leaders, our country.

2 Chronicles 7:14 - "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Stable purchasing power

In today's world the purchasing power of our money is at constant risk through inflation. Each year it takes more and more money to buy the things which once cost only half as much. No such thing happens in terms of the Blood of the Cross of Jesus Christ.

The blood is precious because it retains its full power to save to the uttermost. It cleanses the vilest person. From the moment soldiers placed a crown of thorns on His sacred head and the blood ran down His face.

Until this very day, the blood has lost not one iota of its power. Sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains. Praise be to the Lamb forever!

Can God accept us the way we are? PT 2

Another statement that is leading people down the wrong path - “It doesn’t matter any difference what I believe as long as I am a good person”. Living your life by this statement can cause you to bust the gates of Hell wide open. There is only one thing that makes you "good" in the eyes of God – the Cross of Jesus. Jesus and His sacrifice at Golgotha’s Hill is the only thing that will save and sanctify you. Period! There is no other way. John 3:18 - "He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

Notice the scripture does not have a clause; it is only the proper belief in Jesus Christ that will keep you from burning in the Lake of Fire, and that same thing that saves you will also keep you on the straight and narrow path while you are on your journey through this life. (Romans 6:3-5, 11-14; Romans 8:1,2,11)

What I am about to say is no longer popular and is rarely preached from the pulpit. There is a place called Hell and that is where people will find themselves if they refuse to accept Jesus Christ as Lord of their life.

You can be the greatest person, most sincere person on the planet, but if you don’t know Jesus as your own personal savior, the atonement for your sins, you will perish at the Great White Throne Judgment. There will be no rejoicing that day of the Great White Throne Judgement. Revelations 20:11-15 - "And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.". How sad. Can you imagine - family, friends and co-workers screaming and crying as they are cast into the lake of fire. We must tell people the truth and that truth is Jesus Christ and Him Crucified!

Can God accept us the way we are?

One of the most dangerous statements being slung around today is “God accepts me the way I am". Make no mistake about it, God loves you as He loves every single person. His very nature is one of love to the human race. But He cannot use anything of the old man. If God accepted you the way you are, He would not have sent His Son to save the world from it’s sins.

Ministers and Christians alike sling this catch phrase around like it came straight out of the Bible “God loves you just the way you are.” Sounds good! They tend to use it when they want to justify something wrong. Homosexuality is a big one. Your modern day mega church just wants a body count and will accept anyone and anything that comes through the front door. Noticed I used the word accept. I welcome any homosexual that comes through the church door. But I don’t accept their lifestyle or sins. I believe God can heal them!!! I believe the Holy Ghost can sanctify them Holy! But I am not about to pat somebody on the back and tell them that it is OK to be gay, because it’s not. He said come as you are, but you are not going to leave the same way you came in if you have a true encounter with the Holy One.

When you truly know Jesus as your personal savior, the old person you were starts dieing off and a new creation in Jesus starts to come about. Jesus said you must be born again. John 3:3 says - "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God".

Jesus is talking about a spiritual birth that comes about by faith in Christ and what He has done for us at the Cross of Calvary. The words “cannot see the Kingdom of God” means that without this spiritual birth, you cannot understand or even begin to comprehend the Kingdom of God. God cannot accept the old you, but He can make you a new creation in Christ Jesus!

2 Corinthians 5:17 - "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

While the Titanic was sinking into the freezing, raging waters of the North Atlantic a frightened women in a lifeboat about to be lowered into the water remembered she needed to get something from her room so she asked for permission to go back and get it. They told her she had 3 minutes or they were leaving without her. She raced across the deck that was dangerously pointing down, she tore through the gambling hall where all the money had rolled to one side ankle deep. She came to her stateroom and quickly pushed aside her diamond rings, bracelets and necklaces as she reached to the shelf above her bed and grabbed 3 small oranges. She rushed back to the life boat and got in. What is incredible about that event is that 30 minutes earlier she would not have chosen those oranges over her priceless jewelry. But death had boarded the Titanic and transformed her values. The priceless became worthless. When Christ enters our hearts and sets up His Kingdom, all values are transformed. - cooper

Is medicine for healing scriptural? - PT2

1st Timothy 5:23 - "Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities."

In Paul's epistle to Timothy, I think it is obvious that Paul is instructing Timothy to use wine for medicinal purposes. We could argue about what context the word wine is used, but I personally feel that it was more than likely a stronger alcoholic wine due to the fact it was being used for medicine and Paul use the word "little" to tell Timothy not to drink in excess. In the same breath let me say this, in no way does this give the child of God the ok to drink alcohol even "moderately". I am merely trying to point out that they used what was available at that time to promote healing or ease discomfort from sickness. In our day of modern medicine, a Holy Spirit filled child of God has no business using any type of drug or alcohol for recreational purposes.

We should be so thankful for the blessings of the great medical care we have at our disposal in the United States. It is not perfect and nothing else that man does is perfect. Using medicine does not show a lack of faith. Paul was certainly not lacking in his faith towards God and His abilities. I certainly believe in divine healing and have been touched by the Power of God myself, but I feel that is scriptural to use medicine or medical services as God provides.

Is medicine for healing scriptural?

Ezekiel 47:12 - "And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine."

This vision, beginning at chapter 40, is of the coming Kingdom Age. During this time Jesus will rule the entirety of the Earth from Jerusalem. Out of the Temple will flow a magnificent river. On it's banks will grow trees whose leaves will be used as medicine for healing of the human body during that time.

Now if Jesus will use medicine when He returns to Earth, I feel that it is safe to say that modern medicine is a blessing from God. How blessed is the United States (and other countries) to have access to the medical care we have. Instead of complaining about our health care system here, maybe we should be more grateful for the things God has blessed us with.

As a closing thought, if God can use a frail human to minister the Gospel for salvation of our soul, why would he not use mankind to minster healing to His creation that He loves beyond our realm of understanding.

O Man of God

1st Timothy 6:11 - "But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness."

Paul tells Timothy to flee from the "lust" of money. Paul instructs him to seek after 6 things -

Righteousness and godliness - These two are very close to being the same thing and can only be obtained in one way, through Jesus Christ and His Finished work at Calvary. When we hear those words of righteousness and godliness, we think as Christians that we are to automatically perform something. But the only thing we are to do is have our faith rested in Christ and Him Crucified (Romans 6:3-5). When we have that faith, we are holy and righteous in the eyes of God because of Jesus and His Cross. That same faith lets the Holy Spirit begin an inward work to make and outward change.

Faith - In it's simplified form, faith is simply to believe in something. As a child of God, the only position of Faith that we can have is in Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. God will not accept any other faith, PERIOD!

Love - The greatest love ever shown was the love God showed the human race when he took upon the form of a human and went to die upon a cruel rugged Cross. And as our faith is rested in the vicarious sacrifice of Jesus, His love is manifested in us and that same love spills out onto others around us.

Patience - This pertains to a child of God being patient as it regards waiting upon the Lord and His perfect will in our lives. We are to wait upon Him. His plans are for prosperity and not for calamity, to give us a future and a hope.

Meekness - This calls us to be obedient and humble to God in our lives no matter the circumstances. Meek before God, accepting His perfect will in our lives. As with love, when the power of the Holy Spirit is working in our lives based upon our faith in Christ and Him Crucified (1 Cor 1:18), we will exhibit a meekness before our brethren no matter how wicked they may be.
